Get Through PLAB Part 1 SBAs: using a practice-question book

How to use a printed single-best-answer practice book for PLAB 1, what to watch for with older editions and how to pair it with current UK guidance.

5 minute read · reviewed 24 October 2026

“Get Through” is a long-running series of exam-practice books, and there is a title for PLAB Part 1 single-best-answer (SBA) questions. A book gives you offline practice with no subscription, which suits travel and low-bandwidth study.

How to get the most from it

  1. Time yourself: aim for roughly one minute per question, matching the pace of a 180-question, three-hour paper (see PLAB 1).
  2. Cover the options, form your own answer, then look.
  3. Mark questions you guessed correctly as “not known”.
  4. Rewrite explanations in your own words for the ten most-missed topics.

Where it fits

Use a book to practise the style, a question bank such as PLABable or Passmedicine for volume and analytics, and the GMC specimen questions to see the official style. Browse our recommended books for reference texts.
