The Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration (CESR) and CEGPR (for GPs) let doctors with equivalent training and experience, who did not complete an approved UK programme, apply to the Specialist or GP Register.

  • You submit a detailed portfolio of evidence mapped to the UK curriculum.
  • The relevant Royal College evaluates your application and makes a recommendation to the GMC.
  • Fees and evidence requirements are substantial; many doctors prepare for a year or more.
  • CESR-CP (combined programme) offers a supported training route to fill gaps in a CESR application.

What the evidence looks like

A CESR portfolio maps your experience, exams, logbook, publications and testimonials to each competency in the UK curriculum. Applicants often spend several months organising evidence and may need to fill gaps with additional training or qualifications.
