- Less than full-time training (LTFT): available for health, caring or other reasons, with the same standard and a longer programme.
- Out of programme (OOP): approved time out for research (OOPR), training (OOPT), experience (OOPE) or a career break (OOPC).
- Parental leave: statutory entitlements apply; plan your return and exam sittings with your training programme director.
- Support for returning doctors: supported return to training (SuppoRTT) is available in England.
Practical points
- In England, less-than-full-time training is now open to all trainees; check the Gold Guide for the current conditions. Part-time trainees usually work at least half the hours of a full-time post.
- Time out of programme needs prior approval from your training programme director and the postgraduate dean.
- Plan exam sittings around leave, and keep your portfolio and revalidation requirements up to date during breaks.
