Good Medical Practice is the GMC’s core guidance. It is the standard against which your behaviour and decisions are measured. A new version came into effect in 2024.
- Put patients’ interests first and treat them with respect.
- Be honest and open, including when something goes wrong (duty of candour).
- Work in partnership with colleagues and respect their contribution.
- Keep your knowledge and skills up to date.
- Protect patients from risk, including raising concerns about unsafe practice.
- Maintain professional boundaries, including on social media.
The four domains (2024 edition)

| Knowledge, skills and development | Competence, learning, teaching, reflecting on practice |
| Patients, partnership and communication | Respect, consent, confidentiality, shared decisions |
| Colleagues, culture and safety | Teamwork, raising concerns, tackling discrimination, safe systems |
| Trust and professionalism | Honesty, integrity, boundaries and social media |
